Many Thanks

The House and Gardens at Milton of Finavon House are currently being restored and renovated.  As a listed property by Historic Environment Scotland, the complexity of renovation requires many expertise and skills.

We would like to acknowledge the professionals who are helping us to ensure that our Scottish heritage is preserved for now and future generations.

Architects

Kerry Smith Architects Montrose

David Strathdee has been the lead architect on the project and has been instrumental in the renovation.  His Knowledge and skill in ensuring that Listed Building Consent and Planning Permission was granted without any resubmissions is a testament to both him and Kerry Smith. His continued professional involvement guiding the project through the approvals process as the project is progressing has proven invaluable.

Electrical Installations

Neil RIchardson

Neil Richardson has been involved in the renovation from the start.  The electrical installations throughout the property were such that a total sympathetic rewire has been needed both internally and externally.  As a listed building it was essential that all works had to be carried out with care and respect to the heritage of the building. Neil has been carrying out the work with great skill. In many areas it is impossible to see what has been replaced and newly installed.

Jason has been the onsite builder.  Key parts of the renovations require removal, reinstatement, installation and also repairs.  His commitment to respecting the history of the building, whilst ensuring building regulation compliance has been fundamental to ensuring that site inspections by Angus Planning Dept have gone smoothly and without hitches.

Plumbing and Heating

Gary Durwood

Gary Durwood Plumbing and Heating have had some challenges with the renovation and restoration of the plumbing and the heating within the house.  Both the heating and the plumbing have required significant upgrading and repair.  As such working with an old building and very old installations, it has been a relief to have the skills of Gary to call upon.  There has been an additional amount of new installations to tie into the existing systems and this has not been without some level of complexity

Roofing and Tiling

Si Bruce

It was identified that some of the historic roofing works used non breathable materials, resulting in moderately higher moisture readings

The challenge was to meet modern ventilation standards without dismantling the roofs.  Si managed this with minimal disturbance of the main roof, even though double nailed. An expert roofer and extremely knowledgable and skilled in working with old buildings

Decorator

Bryan Anderson

Bryan has been an asset in the final stages of internal restoration.  His knowledge of techniques of application and products have been essential.  More works externally are planned for 2025.

Tree Surgeon and Arborists

Josh Foster

The first step was to review the trees in the garden and to get a plan in place to clear saplings, dead and diseased and storm damaged trees.  Josh has been working with us over the past 3 years to get the tree stock back to health and in a good state of management. Each year he does an assessment of each tree and carries out any works in autumn. His knowledge and skill has been invaluable to the restoration of the gardens.
